Staying in one of our Carolina One vacation rentals is vital but having the right beach bag essential will help make your vacation a little easier. Be sure to check your “beach bag” basic list before you leave home to guarantee you will have a good time.

Beach Bag Essentials

Do you have a bag you have claimed as your beach bag for all your vacations? Having the right bag can make ALL the difference in the world. Sure, we know that you can throw all your essentials into any bag, but did you know that all beach bags were not created. We suggest looking at the size, is it water & sand resistant, security, and stylish when searching for your bag. We have found that using a backpack, diaper bag (even if you don’t have little ones), or even a large utility tote bag works perfectly for a beach bag.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must for any beach bag when you vacation to the Charleston Coast. Have a sunscreen designed for your beach activities like waterproof, sport, high SPF, etch. Dermatologists recommend that you use sunscreen with at least 30 SPF while enjoying the sunshine. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day as you don’t want to ruin your vacation the first day you’re here with a sunburn.

Water Resistant Phone Pouch

Between the water, sun, and sand, the beach is filled with many things that can damage your phone. We know that phones are not cheap these days, and why would you want to ruin them the first day you’re on the beach enjoying them. Having a water-resistant pouch in your beach bag can be a lifesaver for many. If you do not have one, then a sandwich bag or Ziploc bag will do the same as a pouch. This way, your phone is protected from the elements at the beach, and you can continue to use it while enjoying your time soaking up the sun.

Reusable Cup

When you spend your day in the sun and sand, you will want to stay hydrated. Throw a few water bottles in the cooler or bring a reusable bottle such as a Yeti Cup or S’well Bottle. These will help keep your drink ice cold all day long. The sun and salt will dry you out, so make sure that you have enough water to go around for everyone in the family. If you’re staying in an oceanfront vacation rental, you’ll be able to go back and refill as often as you’d like.

Baby Powder

This essential is a must-have in your beach bag for your next vacation. Whether you’re staying in an oceanfront vacation rental, or you decided to drive to the nearest beach access, sand will be all over you when you leave the beach. Bringing baby powder in your beach bag will magically get the sand off your body without any irritation and is perfect for all ages in the family.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just a few short days away, and soon New Year’s Eve will be here. The first half of the year seemed to go by so slow, yet the second half of the year flew by so quickly. Instead of ringing in the new year at home, spend it with us in one of our Folly Beach vacation rentals this year. Folly Beach is an excellent start to ring in the new year, especially if you’re staying in one of our vacation rentals. This year we are excited to share with you that the Flip-Flop Drop will be returning after it went virtual last year. Beginning at 10:00 pm, Center Street on Folly Beach will close to traffic so people can gather to watch the flops drop. There will be many local businesses staying open later than usual so that you can grab a bite to eat and something to drink as you sit back and wait. Don’t miss this fun and exciting New Year’s Eve on Folly Beach.

Charleston Holiday Festival of Lights

Another excellent opportunity to take the kids out one last time to see the Charleston Holiday Festival of Lights is New Year’s Eve. While they are open nightly from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm, Dec. 31^st will be the year’s last opportunity. The Holiday Festival of Lights is over at the James Island County Park in Charleston. Admission to see the Festival of Lights will vary depending on which night you see them and how large your vehicle is. This is one fun night that everyone in the family will enjoy on your next trip to the South Carolina Coast.

The Charleston area is the perfect place to be able to get out and explore on Black Friday. While many of the stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, you will still have plenty of options on Black Friday. Be sure to head to a grocery store or a convenience store to grab a local newspaper. This is where you’ll find all of the suitable ads to see which store you want to hit up first. Don’t worry about the kids as they will have plenty of space and things to do at your home with the ones who don’t want to shop.

Don’t miss Charleston’s Bridge Run this September

When & Where

You might be a little intrigued by this fun race in Charleston, especially if you’re an avid runner. This race is on Saturday, September 25^th, beginning at 8:00 am on Coleman Blvd in Mt. Pleasant. They will be shutting down the streets to run safely on the roads in the morning. Getting to the race is easy peasy as there will be shuttles to get you to the start line. As long as you’re wearing your bib, you can get onto one of the free shuttles.

10K Run

If you’re looking to register for the race, but you’re unsure of how long it is, then look no further. The Bridge Run will be a 10K, which is 6.2 miles, which many of us may walk daily. Another thing that you don’t want to miss is the Expo that will be on September 23^rd & September 24^th at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Here you’ll not only be able to pick up your race packet, but you’ll also be able to do a little shopping too. Please note that you will not be able to pick up your race packet on the day of the race. This is done for your safety.

Enjoy these 4th of July Activities near Charleston

It’s hard to believe that the 4^th of July will be here before you know it, and we have all the details on where your family can enjoy the festivities. If you happen to be staying in one of our Carolina One vacation rentals this 4^th of July, then you’ll be close to the fun. Let’s look below where your family can head to check out the fireworks and other things happening in the area.

Fireworks Galore

This year we are all so excited that the fireworks are back for the 4^th of July celebration. Head on over to Riverfront Park, beginning at 7:00 pm for the excitement. Not only are the fireworks happening, but there will also be plenty of food options to choose from too. Bring your beach chairs, blankets, snacks & water so you can sit back and wait for the show. Admission is free to this fun event.

Stars & Guitars

It seems that many things are getting back to normal, including the Stars & Guitars event on July 2, 2021. This event is taking place at Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens, beginning at 5:30 pm. Stars & Guitars did not happen last year due to COVID-19, but we are excited they are back this year. This is a summer tradition that many love to attend as they listen to country music and they can dance the night away. We suggest that you purchase your tickets now before the show to be sure to attend.

Beach It

Another thing that your family can do this 4^th of July is spending the day at the beach. If you are staying in one of our Oceanfront vacation rentals, then you can go pick out your spot on the beach in the morning. Be sure to pack the cooler full of ice, water, drinks, and snack for the kids. Set up the beach chairs, umbrella, beach blanket, and toys. Then spend the day watching the kids play nearby as you relax in your chair.

This year’s annual Flip Flop Drop-in Folly Beach will look a little different compared to previous years. It’s hard to believe that the holidays are here, and pretty soon, it will be time to celebrate the new year. This year instead of spending the holidays at home, spend them at the beach. One of the best things you can do is surprise your family with a vacation to stay in one of our South Carolina vacation rentals. Let’s look below at some fun things that your family can do while on vacation this holiday season.

Bake Sweet Treats

As you are staying in one of our vacation rentals this holiday season, your family can bake some pretty sweet treats in your kitchen. 3 Free Things to Do in Charleston this Summer

Are you and your family vacationing in Charleston this summer and are looking for some free things to do? We at Carolina One Vacations can give you the scoop on what you can do for free in the area. When you stay in one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals you will be close to some of the fun. Let’s look below at what three things your family can do for free while on vacation.

Visit the Charleston Tea Plant

Has your family ever been to a tea plant before? If not, then you are definitely in for a treat while on vacation to Charleston this summer. You can go to the only tea garden in North America and enjoy a free tour of the factory at Carolina Tea Plantation. Learning how the tea is made to having the opportunity to look at the whole process is something fun for every family. After you finish up the tour, you will be able to sample several different flavors of tea in their gift shop. What a great activity that your whole family will enjoy and learn a thing or two as well!

Waterfront Park

Another great location that your family can visit while you’re on vacation to Charleston is visiting Waterfront Park. Here you and the family will be able to see the pineapple fountain that may remind you of a particular cartoon character but more elegant. Swing on the pier while you are spotting dolphins in the water nearby. The views at this park are absolutely breathtaking and can be a great location to let the kids enjoy some fresh air. Visit the Angel Oak Tree

Charleston is known for having a lot of history, and the Angel Oak is one you can’t miss. You and your family will be able to take a drive to visit the 1500-year-old Angel Oak, which has been reported to be the oldest living structure on the east coast. This tree is located on Johns Island but is only a short drive away. Take pictures of the tree and marvel in all its beauty and structure!
